Localized Vibrations of Disordered Multi-span Beams: Theory and Experiment
نویسندگان
چکیده
The localization of the free modes of vibration of disordered multi-span beams is investigated, both theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that small deviations of the span lengths from an ideal value may have drastic effects on the dynamics of the system, by inhibiting the propagation of vibrations in the structure. Emphasis is placed on the development of a perturbation method that allows one to obtain the localized modes of vibration of the disordered system without a global eigenvalue analysis of the entire system. Such a perturbation analysis is cost effective and accurate. More importantly, it provides physical insight into the localization phenomenon, and allows one to formulate a criterion that predicts the occurence of localized modes. Also, an experiment is described, which has been carried out to verify the existence of localized modes for disordered twospan beams. Theoretical and experimental results are compared in detail and excellent agreement is found, thus confirming the existence of localized modes.

Free vibration analysis of multi-cracked micro beams based on Modified Couple Stress Theory
In this article, the size effect on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported multi-cracked microbeam is studied based on the Modified Couple Stress Theory (MCST). At first, based on MCST, the equivalent torsional stiffness spring for every open edge crack at its location is calculated; in this regard, the Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) is al...
متن کاملA Semi-analytical Solution for Flexural Vibration of Micro Beams Based on the Strain Gradient Theory
In this paper, the flexural free vibrations of three dimensional micro beams are investigated based on strain gradient theory. The most general form of the strain gradient theory which contains five higher-order material constants has been applied to the micro beam to take the small-scale effects into account. Having considered the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, governing equations of motion are w...
متن کاملAxial and Torsional Free Vibrations of Elastic Nano-Beams by Stress-Driven Two-Phase Elasticity
Size-dependent longitudinal and torsional vibrations of nano-beams are examined by two-phase mixture integral elasticity. A new and efficient elastodynamic model is conceived by convexly combining the local phase with strain- and stress-driven purely nonlocal phases. The proposed stress-driven nonlocal integral mixture leads to well-posed structural problems for any value of the scale parameter...
متن کاملEffects of Transverse and Longitudinal Steel Ratios and Shear Span on the Behavior of RC Beams under Shear Using Modified Compression Field Theory
Although studies on RC beams under shear have a history record of more than 100 years, many important issues in this context still remain that have evaded attention. The aim of the current study is to study a number of these less investigated aspects of the behavior of RC beams under shear. For this purpose, and based on the modified compression field theory, a computer program has been writte...
